The voice itself may sound great, but depending on the quality of the recording space and recording equipment, it can always be improved. Adobe audition has some great plugins in the basic package that every voiceover talent should use to at least minimaly improve their voice (if they already don’t have a piece of equipment that does that). 1. Deesser
TOP 5 elementary plugins on how to make your voice sounds better starts with deesser. Not because it is the most important, but because it should be first.
If you do not know about it, deeser removes sibilance sound. That is the sound that comes from prononouncing letters S ori C, and sometimes sounds as if it “tears ears”. That is, the sound of the letter “S” becomes slightly distorted.
Female voices are more likely to make than undesirable sound than male voices. Be careful how you tune it in, because i fit gets too lound your voice may sound like you have a cold.
2. High pass filter – 80Hz remove
Human voice has nothing significant in the frequency range below 100 Hz, and in that range you can find rumble sounds. (like truck in the street, computer rumble, and similar sounds unless the studio is perfectly isolated).
In Adobe audition there are several plugins for this: Scientific filter, Parametric equalizer, FFT Filter. Through practice, Parametric equalizer is proven best because it take sup the least amount of resources on computer you work on.
3. Dynamics (processing)
It i s not always necessary to change the dynamics of the voice, but in situations where voice is used for radio commercialy, jingles, sweepers or radio, internet or TV distribution it is. Dynamics is a plugin withing Adobe audition that is one of the first plugins ever built in. Its application is very broad, but we use it to correct „peakova“ and level the entire recording so that it doesn’t have large jumps from quieter to louder parts.
4. Speech volume leveler
This is the plugin that makes the biggest difference to the voice. The recording can be extremely quiet or too loud not matter how loud or quiet the voice talent is, this plugin puts everything on the same level and it works perfectly. The problem is that it picks up, to a certain extent, unwanted sounds like breaths, room ambience, mouth clicks and pops etc.
5. Hard limitter
We will close TOP 5 elementary plugins on how to make your voice sounds better with Hard limitter. Anything that goes beyond the limits allowed, Hard limitter puts everything back to its place. No peaks, no strange waveforms. Everything is neat and cut.
This 5 effects should be enough to edit and enhance you voice without a lo of hassle. Again, Deesser for eliminating Sibilance sounds, High pass filter for eliminating anything below 80Hz in the recording, Dynamics for extra flatten sound, Speech volume leveler for leveling th sound to the desired level and finally Hard limiter for eliminating peaks and end processing.
